Degrees and Certificates

Students interested in pursuing a career in the industry should consider earning a certificate or an Associate of Science degree. A certificate program can be completed in as few as two semesters. A degree requires completion of two full years of coursework as a full-time student or more years as a part-time student. Earning a degree requires completion of coursework in Culinary Arts as well as in other courses, known as breadth requirements. Prospective students should consult a counselor. Students may earn the following certificates or degrees in Culinary Arts.

Certificate in Basic Food Service - 15.5 units required

A Certificate of Acccomplishment may be entered by completing all the courses required with a grade of "C" or better.

CULIN 105 Food Safety Training 1.5 units
CULIN 127 Becoming ServSafe Certified 3 units
CULIN 279 Math for Food Service 3 units
CULIN 280 Applied Math for Food Service 3 units
CULIN 095 Culinary Arts Lab 1 unit, to be
taken twice
CULIN 275 Fundamentals of Cooking 1.5 units, to be taken twice

Major: Certificate of Achievement in Classical/Modern Food Preparation and Restaurant Training - 35.5 units required

A Certificate of Achievement may be earned by completing all the courses required for this major with a grade of “C” or better. An Associate in Science degree may be earned by completing a minimum of 60 units of degree credit coursework, including the courses listed below and breadth requirements with a minimum grade point average of 2.0. The student must complete all of the required courses fbelow with a grade of “C” or better.

The student must complete all courses required for the major with a grade of “C” or better.
